How to make a GIF from a video
A GIF loops, autoplays, and works in all the places a video player does not: a chat, a doc, a README, an email. That makes it one of the most useful things you can pull out of a video. There are two kinds worth knowing.
The motion GIF
Take a single shot and animate its real movement. This is the classic GIF: a reaction, a product turn, a quick demo moment, looping on its own. You pick the shot, and the motion comes straight from the footage.
The stills flip-through
Step through one frame from each of several shots at a pace you set. Instead of one moving shot, you get a montage: a whole video summarized in a few seconds of flipping stills.
Getting the pace right
A fast flicker feels energetic; a slow hold reads like a slideshow. The pace is yours to choose, so match it to the mood of what you are showing.
